As the spring air fills our noses here in New England, and Boston begins to bloom into burst of color with flowering trees and bulbs, the allure of fresh florals becomes irresistible, especially for those planning a wedding.

We love that fresh flowers are not simply for bouquets, ceremony or reception accents, or centerpieces; they are a simply a beautiful extension of your wedding day’s romance and whimsy, and can also seamlessly blend with a myriad of bridal hairstyles and looks.

From the bohemian bride dreaming of a wildflower crown, to the elegant minimalist seeking a singular, bold bloom, integrating fresh flowers into your wedding hairstyle adds a touch of personal flair that can totally complete your bridal look.

Tips for Incorporating Fresh Flowers into Your Wedding Hairstyle

Choose Your Flowers Wisely

The longevity and appearance of your hair florals depend heavily on the type of flowers chosen. We opt for blooms with strong stems and sturdy petals, such as orchids (Dendrobium or Cybidium), or consider lighter, airier options like lavender, delphinium, or baby’s breath for a delicate touch. Remember to consider their weight and consult with us to ensure they complement your style (and address any potential allergies or sensitivities!)

Create Harmony with Your Bridal Look

Your wedding dress and accessories should first and foremost guide your hairstyle and flowers should enhance, not overshadow, your overall look. For example, for gowns with intricate back details, an updo adorned with flowers makes a stunning statement, while simpler dresses might welcome a more dramatic floral accent, like a comb or headband.

Plan How You’re Incorporating Florals in Advance

To ensure a seamless integration of florals into your hairstyle, collaboration between your hairstylist and our florists is crucial. We recommend deciding on your hairstyle early and consulting with us to design a floral piece that enhances your chosen look and can be easily secured to your desired hairstyle.

Keep Your Florals Cool Before You Put Them In Your Hair

To maintain the freshness of your flowers, pop them in a refrigerator for as long as possible before the ceremony, and putting them into your hair. This step is vital, especially for summer weddings in Boston and throughout New England, to ensure your florals look vibrant throughout the day.

We ensure that your florals stay super-fresh by providing them in a hydration chamber – essentially a water tight bag that we mist with fresh water prior to sealing your florals in – providing a cool and lightly moist environment to keep petals tip-top!

Add Your Hair Florals Last

As mentioned above, to protect your flowers from damage, they should be the final touch to your bridal ensemble. Avoid direct contact with hairspray or perfume, as these can harm the delicate petals.
